Southdale Center
Southdale Center is the nation’s first indoor regional shopping mall. Southdale Center, commonly known as just Southdale, is a shopping mall in Edina, Minn., a suburb of Minneapolis, that opened in 1956. It is the United States’ oldest fully-enclosed, climate-controlled mall. As of 2011, much of the original Southdale structure is still in use, as well as later additions to the building.
